Food Chain Reaction - Semester 1

Wicked Food Project/Veggie Interviews By Macario Gomez and Edgar Torres

For my Wicked Food Project, my partner and I chose a project from the book titled Wicked Art Assignments.
We chose the "Talk To A Stranger" project, where the assignment is going up to a stranger and interviewing them about a specific topic. We modified the assignment to relate to our guiding questions that semester. We dressed up in pickle costumes and made a sign to ask and tally our answers for our interview aswell as recording these encounters. After asking people at Liberty Public Market a question and receiving their answers, we would inform them of the positive or negative impact of their choice. Please take a look at the deeper meaning of the slide show showcasing my Project Proposal and Artist Statement. Also Click the title to see our film of our project.

The Wheel/How Our Food Gets To Us

Picture
This is my group's wheel detailing the significant systems of how food gets to our table. There are 4 main systems: Farm, Transport, Table, and Finance. For the food we chose to demonstrate how it gets used is Carne Asada. I did the table section, which I will explain. When you finally get the meat your gonna obviously need to prep and cook it. I used an equation I researched to measure the total energy a human uses in Joules to prep and cook the meat. The Equation is as follows: calories burned per minute = (MET x body weight in Kg x 3.5) ÷ 200. We used the average weight of someone, 150lb/68kg, and multiplied it by 20 and 10. In total, someone of 150lbs/68kg would use 301248 J or 72 kcals. Per serving of the Carne Asada (just the meat), had 891192 J of energy in it. In total combing how much energy it takes to Farm the meat, Transport the meat, and cook the meat would equal to 151576428230784 J.

My Self Portrait Made On A Graph                           ANNOTATIONS

In this project, I made a self-portrait using a graph. We used equations for parabolas, circles, ovals, and lines. In total, I wrote 65 equations to create my self-portrait. I also made a annotations sheet for three solutions. Solutions are where lines meet in the same coordinate. Which you can take a peek at it in the photos next to here, or click on the "ANNOTATIONS" at the top of this section to see the original copy. You may also go on Desmos, the website we used, to see the original copy using the QR code provided.

Physics Unpredictability Poster

Picture
In this project, with a partner, we made a poster online describing how unpredictable and dangerous tsunamis are. Tsunamis are commonly caused by underwater earthquakes, which can't be predicted; therefore, a earthquake caused tsunami can't be predicted. Tsunamis are also destructive and have led people into poverty and homelessness. The most common area for tsunamis to generate is in the Ring of Fire. Scientists measure tsunamis by their depth, speed of the front of the wave, and strength of the earthquake, but scientists also simulate tsunamis with landslides.

Rube Goldberg Machine/Partner Story Telling With Marble Chains

Picture
In this project we built a Rube Goldberg Machine which is a machine designed to make a simple task complicated. A example of a Rube Goldberg is a domino and marble chain reaction. We made this chain reaction to model a story that my partner told me about a food he enjoys.
We also calculated the potential energy of each domino and added all that energy together to get 0.02638 Joules of energy.

Rube Goldberg Blueprint

This is the blueprint for my Rube Goldberg Machine that shows each part of the machine and equation for the total potential energy.

Partner Food Story Visual Recipe

This is a visual recipe of my partner's food from his story about food. He told me a story about lamp chops and how he discovered them. I then found the recipe that he actually used to make lamb chops and made a comic-style recipe detailing every step. The reason we did it in a comic style is that we read a graphic novel called Relish: My Life In The Kitchen, where it showed recipes for food she ate in a comic book style.

Mathematical Identity Card

This is my identity card. My class surveyed with measurable answers, and I chose three questions to answer and locate where I fall in the data. I also found the mean, median, mode, first quarter, and third quarter.

Letter To Reading

At the beginning of S1 of freshman year, we wrote a letter to reading as if it were a person. We wrote about how we feel about reading and reading.
